New Hobby

Hey all,

I've been wanting to post for quite some time now, but just haven't gotten to it. I actually had almost a week go by at the end of Feb where I didn't even get to turn my computer on. We've been really busy around here, with teaching, Ron's new job, and getting more things done here at the church. A few weeks ago, we were able to get with a man in the church to get the tile laid in the annex. It ended up taking longer than planned (any surprise?) and we ended up needing two days to complete the project. I didn't mind though, because while the men were laying the tile, I got to spend some time with the wife of the man that was helping Ron. She taught me how to knit, and we went shopping for knitting supplies (since I didn't have any), knitted, and talked while the men worked :) I really enjoyed our time of visiting!!!

Here are my finished projects!! I am really happy how they turned out. Of course, I had to take it all out a few times before I got the hang of it, but after a bit, I got it. So far, I'm "restricted" to the simple dishcloth patterns, but my next project is a shoulder bag to use for my "current project". I also have ambitions of making afgans, pillows, sweaters, scarves, etc. I know it will be a while, but I'm "impatient" and want to try to tackle the sweater right now!!! I know I'm not ready for that yet, so must pace myself. I also have a cross stitch project that realllly needs done, so I'll be getting that done before I get too involved in my next knitting project. I am excited about this new hobby!! One of my yarn sceins (SP?) had two free patterns for dishcloths and I want to try one of them. The other one is real close, if not the same, as the square one here. The other one is also square, but it has different details.
Half way finished with first discloth

Finished dishcloth

Second dishcloth. I like this one better, because it isn't the traditional square.

Close up of one section of the "flower" dishcloth. I'm working on another one in a solid color, and I like it better. It's easier to see the details since they aren't "lost" in the varigated colors.

Ron's sister is coming for a visit next week. We are looking forward to getting to spend some time with her, and have lots of fun things planned!!! Can't wait to see her again!!
Well, that's the rundown of what's going on right now. Summer is well on it's way to getting here, so we'll be sweating it out here soon!!! Our citrus trees that have survived too much water, and then not enough, are in blossom right now and with the wind blowing we can smell them all the way up to the church!! They were literally covered, and I checked the other day day and there is now fruit starting!! Hopefully the fruit will mature and we'll get to enjoy it this year. I think this is the third year for the trees, so its about time!!!! Too bad the fruit won't mature for several weeks yet, so Ron's sister won't get to enjoy some fresh squeezed lemon/limeade from our trees. We'll find some fresh citrus somewhere though!! Not much beats a glass of fresh squeezed lemon/limeade!!!

Hope everyone has a good week!!! Take care, and God bless!!!!

Until next time,
Esther

P.S. I have so many thoughts to post, but just not enough time!!! Bear with me, and maybe I'll get them out there sometime!!!

(This was supposed to be up in the "body" but somehow I got to typing in the middle, and decided to just leave it here.) We put a small sprinkler system in, both in the rose garden we have in front of the house, and in the landscaping in front of the church. Now, hopefully the plants will get all the water they need, and it won't keep breaking, like the soaker hoses kept doing!!!

Congratulations on the new hobby! I've tried knitting in the past, in 8th grade the class made granny squares to be put together into an afghan. It was enjoyable but I haven't kept with it. I tried to make a baby afghan for Valerie but had trouble with it. I can't remember if I crocheted it or knitted it now! But somehow I kept gaining stitches and I'd have to tear it out. I did finish it, but haven't tried anything since I don't think.

Your place sounds wonderful with all that fruit and sunshine, and the improvements you're doing. It's good to have something to do and keep active. I wish I were more so.

I don't know if your husband has more than one sister or not, are you talking about Holly? She's getting married soon isn't she?

Blessings,
Diane

I wish I could knit! I've tried several times, but I just can't get the hang of it. Maybe if I had a live teacher instead of a book, but oh well ... I guess I'll have to stick to crochet! :)

Diane -- Ron does have another sister besides Holly, and she's the one that's coming. Holly is getting married end of May, and we are all really excited for her!!

Sophia -- Knitting isn't really all that hard (personally I like it better than crochet because at least for me, it's tighter and goes faster) but I think it would be hard to learn from books. For me, it's always easier if I can watch something be done as opposed to trying to learn from pictures. After I've seen it, then the pictures make sense!! The same lady that showed me how to knit says she'll show me how to crochet. I know the chain stitch but that is the extent of it. Maybe if I learn more, I'll like it better. Some of my patterns I have are crochet, and so since I really like the patterns, if the opportunity arises, I'll give crochet another shot!!

Thanks all of you for posting comments!!! I appreciate it, and try to comment on your blogs too, but time doesn't always allow for it.
