Chicken Coup

as requested by Renee.

I have been meaning to get pictures on here of the chicken coup, and the chicks as they grow, but just haven't gotten to it. Renee sort of gave me the push, so here are some pictures!!! I have been having a difficult time getting pics of the chicks, because they like to stay in the corners when I am in there, and the shadows just don't allow enough light in. I tried with flash, but it didn't lighten it up enough. Yesterday, I didn't take my camera out, and I wish I had have!! The yellow one was sitting on top of the waterer!!!! I did get some today of them on the roost bar thing we put up in there. They really are growing, and are just about all feathered out. The yellow one has turned a brownish red (I think it's really pretty) and a couple of the black ones are "salted". As far as I can tell right now, we may have 3 hens and 3 roosters. We'll have to wait and see as they grow more to really know for sure.

This is the south side of the pen. You can see that's where the door is to get in.
This is the east side, looking into the house thing. Ron is going to make a partial front on the south side (where the box is) so that they will have more protection from the rain. We had a couple of storms, and there really wasn't a dry place for them to go until I turned the box around with the opening in the back. I don't know when that will get done, but hopefully before the next storms come through!!!!

Just a couple of pics of the chickens. Not really close enough to see them real good, but they won't stay out in the open when I get that close!!! I could zoom in, but I don't have good zoom, and it makes it fuzzy most of the time.

Now for a quick rundown of what's been going on. Ron has been working, and since someone called off, he got an extra day in this week. A week or so ago, we started replacing 2 of the doors in the church. The church used to have a bathroom in the back of the building, but Ron has turned it into a storage room. We had to replace that door before hand, because it was far from secure, and not very well sealed. We painted the doors during the week, and then on Sat. put the one in on the storage room. While Ron was taking the sink out, and all the other stuff, he broke the water line, so he had to shut off the water, and then go to the hardware store to get what he needed to fix it. Since it was the sink connector, we just capped it off, since we aren't using it as a bathroom at this time. Anyway, we didn't get the job totally finished on Sat, so we finished it up on Mon. I painted what needed to be put up while he was working, and then right after supper, we went and finished it up. It really looks nice!!! And is weather proof, and as secure as you can get a door.

Yesterday, Ron was going to finish up the water pipe job. He wasn't able to get it tightened good on the piece that just screwed in, so he was going to cut the pipe, screw the piece tighter, and then join the pipe back together. Well, it was 6:00 when he went out to do that. When he went to tighten the piece, it broke!!! The hardware store in town closes at 6, so...... he had to go to Home Depot in Weslaco (one town over, 10 min or so drive) to get what he needed to fix it. Once he got back, it didn't take long to get it fixed(but we were out of water until it was done!!), and then we took a bunch of stuff out of the annex and put in the storage room. We are gradually getting things straightened up in there, and will make a trip to the landfill before we leave for KS, so we will have pretty much everything out of there that doesn't need to be in there. The next step will be to lay the carpet....(Daddy, will you come help?)

Well, that will probably have to be all for now. I really don't have much more to pass along, so to spare you all from senseless rambling, I will sign off for now!!!! Take care everyone, and God bless you all!!!

Until next time,
Esther

P.S. I am curious as to who all is keeping up with this. If you wouldn't mind, it would be nice to know who all IS reading this, so please leave a comment to let me know!!! If you don't have a blog, use the annonymous, but please leave your name. Thanks!!!! (If you know that I know you are reading it, you don't have to leave a comment......unless you want to!!!)

Hey kiddo. I read your blog. I check it every day or so just to make sure that I don't miss anything. I think the girls read it too. Thanks for the special one for me that you wrote a couple of weeks ago and the one for Daddy and the boys today.

Love you,
